This Hozelock 1566 Trinamic External Filter 20000 is a high-performance biological filter designed for densely stocked fish and koi ponds up to 20000 litres. The Trinamic 20000 is a pump-fed external downward-flow filter and the return flow is via gravity back to the pond and can be by flexible hose or a rigid pipework with an external diameter between 88mm and 110mm. The Trinamic filter can be installed at the top of a waterfall feature by the side of a pond or up to 5m away from the edge of the pond and will support 70cm of fish per 1000 litres of pond water. The higher flow rate of 10000lph is recommended for koi ponds but the maximum should not be exceeded.

It has a unique moving K3 bed that promotes natural selection of ultra-efficient Nitrosomonas bacteria as only the strongest fastest-acting micro-organisms survive the constant media collisions. This type of bacteria which breaks lethal ammonia down into nitrite thrives in an oxygenated dynamic environment.

It has three stages:
1.The moving bed ensures that the ammonia and oxygen in the water is evenly distributed among the biomedia so all bacteria can thrive and that it is self-cleaning - pond debris passes through to the foam module.
2.Water passes evenly through a perforated plate and into a series of fine foams which remove solid matter.
3.Below the foam water passes through denitrifying bacteria which grow on the Cypripak biomedia in a dark still environment. Clean healthy water is then returned to the pond.
